Description
Overview
Set high above Preston on the English Riviera, Swanston Lodge is a beautifully styled bolthole for two, offering privacy, comfort and truly stunning sea views. Quietly tucked beside the owner’s elegant coastal home, this bright pet friendly loft apartment feels wonderfully secluded — a peaceful base for exploring South Devon’s iconic coastline.
Just down the hill, Paignton invites you to unwind with its long stretch of golden beach, charming pier, colourful beach huts and relaxed, friendly vibe. Wander the historic harbour and take a boat trip along the coast, hop aboard the Dartmouth Steam Railway, or explore nearby highlights such as Greenway House (Agatha Christie’s riverside retreat), Paignton Zoo, Dartmoor National Park and the cathedral city of Exeter.
Whether you’re planning a romantic escape or a rejuvenating solo stay, Swanston Lodge offers a stylish and serene setting to make the most of the coast.
The Space
Step inside this charming coastal loft up a few steps from the parking area, and you’ll be welcomed into a bright and inviting retreat with sloped ceilings and unique architectural charm. The generous entrance hall is perfect for beach bags and walking boots, and leads you into a beautiful light filled open-plan living space with far reaching sea views. Bathed in natural light, the lounge offers a comfy sofa, Smart TV, and captivating views through French doors that open to a Juliet balcony – the ideal spot for a quiet morning coffee or evening glass of wine.
The well-equipped kitchen includes everything you’ll need for relaxed holiday cooking, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, and fridge/freezer – all neatly tucked into this thoughtfully designed space.
The bedroom is a peaceful haven, decorated in soft tones with a double bed, Smart TV, and en-suite shower room for your comfort and convenience.
Outdoor Spaces
Step outside to your private glass-fronted terrace, where you can dine al fresco or simply sit back and soak up the uninterrupted views across the bay. With private parking included, exploring the area couldn’t be easier.

Interaction
Fresh Escapes is a professional holiday letting and management company with years of experience marketing, managing, and even owning holiday homes across Devon. We take pride in our family roots and strive to offer that same welcoming atmosphere to all our guests. We understand that many of our guests are looking for a peaceful retreat, so we won’t intrude on your stay. We’ll check in after your arrival and remain available if you need anything during your visit, but the house is yours to enjoy. We hope you love it as much as we do.
Neighbourhood
Paignton itself is one of the brightest jewels in the English Riviera’s crown. The seafront and town centre shops are all a short distance away, making it an ideal Devon holiday resort for that relaxing break away. Once you arrive, you don’t have to go far, but of course, there is plenty to see and do in the area if you wish to get out and about and explore. Visit the popular seaside towns of Brixham and Torquay, which are a bus ride away. Also Kingswear and Dartmouth, as well as Greenway House (Agatha Christie’s home) and Dittisham. And the wild, open moorlands of Dartmoor are easy to get to by car. Like the rest of the English Riviera, Paignton benefits from a mild climate and sub-tropical palm trees, giving that real continental, holiday feel, and when we are blessed with good weather, you could be anywhere in the world. But, like all our coastal towns, they showcase their own beauty in the winter months too, so whatever time of year you choose to visit, you are sure to have an enjoyable stay.
Getting Around
Car is recommended but not essential as there is a bus stop near the property that will take you into Paignton Bus station and the local Stagecoach bus network taking you around the Bay and further afield to Exeter or Plymouth. Paignton also has a train station with connections through to London, Birmingham and further afield.
A 15 minute drive in the opposite direction takes you into Totnes railway station which is on the mainline train route. There are two or three trains an hour (30 mins) to Plymouth and Exeter (30 mins). By car, it’s 40 mins to both.
